The Courteeners - You overdid it doll
Mainframe was asked to help out on about 7 shots on this pop promo for The Courteeners. Basic concept was to explode a porcelain woman in slow motion. I went to the shoot in Essex on the last working day of 2009. (I was actually supposed to be on holiday already but that's how it goes sometimes..)
It's a good song but all I can hear in the chorus is "You old potato"....
Cracks comped in Nuke. Explosion made in 3d max, rendered in Maya and comped in After Effects.
Oh yeah, we ended up working on 25 shots...

Actionhorse - Ponytale (VFX BreakDown)
I have a friend who works as a action sports manager. Not really sure what he does day to day but he seems to get a whole lot of cool free stuff. His friend was making a snowboardfilm for quicksilver so I quickly asked if I could destroy a perfectly fine trick by putting some 3d on it.
Quote from PerHampus (Director)
Yes, if you did not know it already, it is fake. If you thought it was real, I am happy you did. Arvid Niklasson contacted me and said that he had a good idea for the movie. Arvid is a Visual Effects artist / 3d genius and probably has a many more fancy titles. He wanted to make a some fake shots for the movie so I sent him footage that he could play around with, I did not really know what to expect but when I got the file back I was blown away. So much time goes into this.
Time does go into our line of work sometimes :)

Ferrari Streaks
Guy Soulsby came to us to see if we could help him make some interesting streaks after a Ferrari. Me and Liam Chapple tracked all the scenes and set up a nice particle system in 3d max. Those shots became quite nice. Then there was this shot....
Apparently it had been raining on the day of the shoot and the director wanted the car to look like it had been polished to death by an intern. This is how I solved and comped that shot

Rehab Promo (1/4)
This was a litteral translation to the brief "Ex-celebertise rebuilding their life". We shattered four different people in 21 days straight in these 30 second promos for Virgin One.
All the shattering done in max with RayFire and rendered in vray for maya. Additional particle systems where setup in max to make it even nicer.
Quite a lot done for being 3 people over 3d weeks.

SONY PSP - Shape The World
Did a couple of shots for this Sony PSP Spot. Its an in-store piece to show how great and flexible the PSP really is. It was shot totally stop frame in about 5 weeks in a studio in Hackney (London). Me and my fellow workmates helped out on shots that were impossible to do in real life (or just WAY to tedious). My main focus was on the last shot as well as one with photos on a wall. I used PFlow heavily in both of them. The final piece was graded at the Mill and they did a great job.

Virgin Ident (Dominoes)
If you were a director, would you rather set up 10 000 dominoes by hand or would you rather say "Let's just do it in post"? I would set it up in real life but we had neither time or money to do that so we had to do them in 3D. It was so much fun setting up these bad boys in 3d and see them fall over!

VFunny Promo
Brief : Kill the clown in any way you want. - Yes please!
Easy really, Just rebuilt the clown and skinned him to a biped. Animated him by hand and comped him in After Effects. I was well impressed by the clown's (can't remember his name) diverse talent. Would probably scare the living daylight out of the kids but that's Steven Kings fault.
